Now the Lord said to Abram, “GO from your country, and your kindred, and your father’s house to the land that I will show you.”

God's mission isn't looking for a few good men.

Our God is a sending God that wants all of us to be a part of his sending work. This is contrary to the consumer mentality that a lot of followers of Jesus have. They are content to sit back and watch the show but they don't personally participate in God's work.

There shouldn't be uninvolved spectators, missions isn't a work for special people, every child of God is called to share the good news. The Bible teaches that God’s method is to use the foolish, the weak, and the despised persons of the world to bring him glory. (1 Cor. 1:26-31)

Paul has been upheld as the ideal missionary for so long that many fail to realize that the spread of the gospel in the first century was accomplished by unsung heroes like Barnabas, Silas, Mark, Aquila, Epaphroditus, and a host of others.

We shouldn't send others as our substitute.

A second misconception is that world missions can be done by proxy. Some think missionaries are their substitutes in world evangelism. They are satisfied to pray for missionaries, to support them, and to encourage them.

All these things should be done, but doing them does not relieve each Christian of his responsibility to be involved directly in God’s mission in their own home, neighborhood and around the world.

Not everyone can be a missionary, but everyone can be on mission for God.
