A Journey of Purpose: Finding True Community and Calling on the Aicurapá River

There is a vast difference between simply drifting through life and living with a deep, enduring purpose. For one local leader on the Aicurapá River, that turning point came when he traded a life of wandering for a life of profound service.

As a Baptist community leader, his story is a beautiful testament to what happens when we commit ourselves fully to faith, family, and the people around us. Here is a glimpse into a lifetime of transformation, devotion, and community impact.

A Legacy built on Faith and Family

When looking at this leader’s life today, it’s impossible to ignore the deep roots of love and faith that define his household. Alongside his wife—his steadfast partner with whom he has shared over 50 years of marriage—he has watched a massive, vibrant family grow. Today, their legacy reaches all the way to great-great-grandchildren.

For any parent, the greatest joy is seeing your children thrive. For this community leader, that joy is multiplied:

"All my children, thank God, bring me joy, because they are all converted and working in the ministry."

Even as the years advance, his and his wife's commitment to the Aicurapá River congregation hasn't wavered. Whether it is spreading the gospel or rolling up their sleeves to help with the physical, material needs of the church building, they remain ready to serve at a moment's notice.

Moving from "Aimless" to Active Leadership

Life didn't always have this clear direction. Before fully accepting Christ, he recalls living a divided life—pulled between worldly distractions and the church, acting without a real anchor. In those days, everything felt "easy," but it lacked substance.

Even his early days in the church were passive. He stepped into roles like catechism and early ministry, but it mostly involved reading prepared texts and teaching pre-packaged lessons. There was no real weight to it, no personal stretch.

That all changed with true conversion. True leadership, he discovered, requires you to step out of your comfort zone. Today’s ministry demands active character, mentorship, and a willingness to pour into others. It isn't always easy, but it is incredibly fulfilling.

The Reality of the Mission: Strength in Community

A major catalyst for this growth was his time with CTL (Center for Theological Leadership/Training). It was here that he learned the practical realities of missionary life.

Many people view missionary work as a path of ease or prestige, but the reality is much more grounded. It comes with real hardships and daily struggles. Through his training, he learned how to navigate group dynamics, family life, and the unique trials of the mission field.

More importantly, he learned that no one can do this work alone. Today, he credits his resilience to the incredible support system around him—the central ministry and fellow pastors who offer continuous guidance, mentorship, and a helping hand whenever it's needed.

Looking Forward with Gratitude

Reflecting on a lifetime that transitioned from aimless wandering to deep spiritual leadership, the overriding sentiment is simple: gratitude. Every day spent serving the community on the Aicurapá River is viewed as a gift and an opportunity to make a lasting difference.
