Still Waiting to Hear

Across Brazil, 164 indigenous people groups remain unreached by the Gospel. Of those, 56 have no known missionary activity, and many are concentrated in the northern Amazon.

Those numbers are difficult to imagine, but behind every number are people, families, and entire communities.

Some live in areas separated from the outside world by great distances, dense forest, and rivers that serve as the only highways. Reaching these communities can require long journeys by boat, and in some areas access is extremely limited.

But difficult to reach does not mean forgotten.

Jesus told His followers that they would be His witnesses “to the ends of the earth.” For Amazon Vida, some of those ends of the earth are found deep within the Amazon, where there are still people who have little or no access to the Gospel.

This is one of the reasons our work continues to move farther into the Amazon. The need is still great, and there are still communities where the message of Jesus has not yet taken root. That’s why we go to the hard places.

Some places are hard to reach because of geography. Others are hard to reach because the Gospel has had little opportunity to take root.

In the Amazon, many communities are both.

There are villages that can only be reached after hours or days of travel by river. There are no highways connecting many of these communities, and travel can be slow, expensive, and unpredictable. Distance alone makes ministry difficult.

But the physical journey is only part of the challenge.

Some indigenous communities have had very limited exposure to the Gospel. Others may be cautious of outsiders because of their history, culture, or past experiences.

We cannot publicly share every location or every detail of the work taking place in these sensitive areas, but that isn’t necessary to ask you to pray.

• Pray for open doors.

• Pray for hearts prepared to hear the Gospel.

• Pray for wisdom and protection for those serving in remote areas.

• Pray that God will continue making a way for the Good News to reach people who are still waiting to hear.

The mission is not finished.

The Gospel must keep moving.
